Volunteerism:

...Is the willingness of people to work on behalf of others without the expectation of pay or other tangible gain. Some go so far as to dedicate much of their lives to voluntary service. So it is with a goodly portion of our volunteer membership; many of whom have been in some aspect of EMS for 10 or more years.  Our organization is made up of a combination of volunteers and part-time paid employees.  Our volunteers come from all walks of life and all share the same passion:  To be there for the members of our community that need emergency medical assistance any time of day or night.

Benefits of Volunteering with West Harris County EMS

First and foremost you have the opportunity to be an important resource to the citizens of your community; to be there for them in their hour of need.

Our service is a "911" service, therefore whenever someone calls 911 for a medical emergency in our service area we are called out to provide medical intervention and, if needed, emergency transport to an area hospital. What could be more fulfilling then to help a sick & helpless child.  What would you give if you were in a motor vehicle accident and you were counting on someone to come and provide emergency care and transport to the hospital quickly, efficiently and professionally? What if you were an elderly person, limited in your ability to get around, and you fell and were not able to get up on your own? All this and much, much more are what we as EMS volunteers do for our community.

We also participate actively in all sorts of public relation events that occur in our area.  It could be helping to train our community in Emergency Response during a disaster or doing CPR training for the general public or even participating in a parade over the 4th of July.  We also provide first aid support to various schools for their football games.

We are highly trained, exceedingly dedicated members of the community we serve.  And we need people like YOU to join our ranks so that we can continue to provide the same high levels of service and commitment  now and in the future.

Training - You don't have to already be a certified EMT in order to volunteer.  WHCEMS will provide that training to you. Best of all it's FREE!!! All you have to do is agree to spend some quality time with us putting that training to good use.  If you'd like to find out more about what it takes to become a member of WHCEMS please click here. (If you don't believe EMS is your cup of tea why not consider being a volunteer firefighter? West I-10 Fire Department and West Harris County EMS work hand in hand to be there for the members of our community. You can find out more about West I-10 FD by clicking here.)

Our members come from all walks of life.  From students to engineers; home owners to apartment dwellers; policemen to firemen; business owners to real estate professionals and everything in-between.  We all share the same sense of wanting to give back to our community and to be there for you.  One of us could be and probably is your neighbor, either next door or maybe just up the street.

Our service includes, but is not limited to, areas West of Barker Cypress, East of Grand Parkway (Highway 99), North of Buffalo Bayou, and South of Clay Road.  This area is about 60 square miles in size.  Click here to see a map of this response area.

West Harris County EMS maintains five stations/ambulances in our service area. Stations 1, 2 and 3 are located south of I-10 and stations 4 and 5 are located north of I-10.  At any given time, 24/7/365, there are two ambulances on duty.  One north of I-10 and one south of I-10.  In the event both active ambulances are on a call and another ambulance is needed a radio call will go out to the volunteers detailing the nature of the incident and requesting that another ambulance be manned for that call.

Please feel free to look around the website and please use any of the interactive features to get any information you might be in need of.
